The Story
The Great Yellow Yawn.
Every morning, a little girl named Yara woke up in her bed under the window. The sun came in, yellow and warm, and it touched her face to say: good morning.
Yara would climb out of bed and stand on the soft rug in her yellow nightgown. She put her feet together, straight and tidy, and then she reached her arms up and out, wide as wings, and gave the biggest yawn in the world.
"Yyy-aaawn!" she said, and the sound went out the window and woke up the birds. Her little brother in the next room heard it and yawned too. Then her mother yawned, and then the cat.
One morning Yara looked at her shadow on the wall while she was yawning. There it was: two feet together making a straight line, and two arms reaching up into the air, like branches of a tree.
"Yes!" she cried, "I am a letter!" And she ran to tell her mother, who said, "Yes, you are, my darling, you are a Y, and every morning you can be Y again."
