The Story
The Umbrella Turned Upside Down.
Uncle Ulrich had a big red umbrella that he took everywhere. One day there was a great gust of wind, whoosh, and his umbrella flipped inside out and upside down.
"Uh oh!" cried Uncle Ulrich, as the umbrella tumbled into the garden and landed with its handle up and its round bowl down in the grass, and then rolled right over until it sat with its bowl to the sky.
The rain kept falling, and the upside-down umbrella began to fill up like a little red pond. A duckling waddled over, looked in, and hopped right in with a splash.
Uncle Ulrich's little nephew came running. "Uh, uncle, look!" he said. "The duckling has a swimming pool!" And the two of them knelt beside it and watched the duckling paddle round and round.
When the rain stopped they tipped the water out and dried the umbrella. But the nephew always remembered how it looked filled with rain: down, round, and up again. "That is how U holds things," he said.
