The Story
The Quiet Queen and Her Quilt.
There was once a queen who loved quiet more than anything. While the king held feasts in the great hall, she slipped away to her rose garden, where there was a round arbor covered with roses.
She sat inside the arbor with her quilt in her lap, sewing patches together. Her long blue train swept out from the bottom of the circle and lay across the grass like a tail.
One day a little girl got lost in the castle and wandered into the garden. She was frightened and crying until she saw the queen sitting in her round rose arbor. "Shh," said the queen kindly. "Come and sit in the quiet with me."
The girl sat on the train of the queen's dress, and the queen let her choose a patch for the quilt. They sewed together without saying a word, and the girl felt calm.
When the girl's mother came to find her, she saw the round arbor, the queen within, and the long train sweeping out from the bottom. "How quiet," she whispered, "and how like a Q."
