The Story
The Owl in the Old Oak.
In the middle of the wood stood an old oak with a perfectly round hollow in its trunk. In the hollow lived an owl with round golden eyes.
Every night the animals of the wood came to the oak to ask her questions. "Owl, why do the leaves fall?" asked the mouse. "Owl, where does the moon go?" asked the fox.
The owl would open her round eyes wide, look at each one, and say, "Oh," very slowly. "Oh, that is a good question." And then she would tell them a story that answered it.
One night the smallest rabbit asked, "Owl, why is everything here so round?" The owl laughed. "Oh! Look at my door, it is round. Look at my eyes, they are round. Look up at the moon tonight, it is round too."
The rabbit looked, and it was true: the round hollow, the round eyes, the round full moon. "Oh," whispered the rabbit, and his mouth made a round shape too. And that is the O.
